The new generation of automobiles built today are a product of advanced manufacturing processes and synthesized materials that make vehicles lighter, better performing, with increased efficiency. This places a continual demand on auto body repair facilities to not only keep up, but to proactively stay ahead of the innovation curve in order to remain competitive. The Certified Technicians at Rallye Collision are highly-trained and qualified to perform the latest techniques in auto body repair for the latest automotive manufacturing materials and methods. Among our many certifications, we are qualified to perform Silicon Bronze Welding and MIG Brazing. Why is this relevant to you as a Long Island Auto Body customer? Let us explain.
Auto makers are continually developing ways of making cars lighter and faster, while striving to minimize loss of strength and safety. This has led to greater use of metal alloys utilizing aluminum in the construction of new vehicle frames. These high strength alloys require a different approach to welding than what was previously employed on older steel materials. Manufacturers like Honda, Chrysler, Jaguar, Land Rover, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz all call for repair procedures involving Silicon Bronze Welding and MIG brazing. In these procedures, copper is combined with other elements, such as tin, silicon or aluminum, to create silicon bronze. This process employs adhesion rather than fusion. Traditional welding requires heating the base materials to 3000° and fuses them together, often with a filler material, while MIG Brazing occurs at a temperature of 1940° and does not melt the base materials, but rather only melts the silicon bronze which flows around and between the elements to create a joint. Even though the bronze is softer than steel, with the proper technique, the repair has a greater tensile strength than traditional steel welding.
Rallye Collision is committed to staying current with new vehicle manufacturer repair techniques and Silicon Bronze Welding Certification is just one of the many methods we’ve employed to meet those requirements and provide the highest quality auto body and collision repair available on Long Island.
